  • Sadly, it has been shown that this is untrue. There were the same amount of sick perverts when we were kids as there are now. The only difference is that kids are now more educated and open to report it, and media more frequently covers it. But statistics do show that nothing has changed. So I would most definitely give my kids the same amount of freedom. Plus, we lived in the country. There wasn’t anybody out there but us. Now, with that being said, I live in a rural area now, but even if I lived in a large city, it would be the same. I have boundaries on how far my children can venture, without my permission. They know when to be home and know when to spot danger. I feel I’m raising them to be more independent and showing them that they need to learn to fend for themselves, to an extent. I’ll always be papa lion and murder anyone who tries to harm them. They also know they can come to me WITH ANYTHING. They can speak to me openly, without fear of judgement or persecution. But overall I think they will grow up better because of it. I think that’s what’s wrong with this current generation. They were sheltered and placed in a bubble and handed everything. So that’s what they expect. They feel that if they don’t like something, well then it’s their way or no way. That they have the right to force everyone to live as they do. It’s sad really.

But I digress. Honestly, do some research and it will show you that while the number of reported cases and convictions of crimes against children have increased over the past few decades, experts say that the actual amount of danger our children face hasn’t changed. One expert said that we actually put our children in more danger by sheltering them. Besides, your child is more likely to be molested by a close friend or relative than a complete stranger. Think about that. It’s scary.

    • I have to admit that you are right on so many points. And yes, more often people who you are close to are the ones who commit those acts. I have witnessed some cases.
