Is it normal to be nervous around small crowds?

I performed in front of 5 people but I could barely get through my monologue because I was so nervous and scared (I actually had to get off stage and recollect myself. I was EXTREMELY embarrassed). But I performed in front of a large crowd and I was just fine, comfortable even. I am definitely way more scared of smaller groups than larger groups...is this normal?

I think I can relate. I've been in several plays and one of them was in a house and the public would follow the actors to the different rooms. It was only for 12 people each performance. The closeness and the fact that it's not one big group of people that seems like one entity rather than few individuals judging you might be a reason for that... too close for comfort! What do you think?

I am comfortable in front of a small or a large crowd. It makes little difference to me but I do a bit of standup comedy now and then so crowds of any kind don't bother me.

I'd be more nervous giving a speech in front of 10 people than 10,000
