Breast cancer is a serious issue. I'm sure most people who've never known anyone who died of breast cancer are indifferent, but I've known two women who died from it. Therefore, it's not something I take likely.
And the reason breast cancer is one of the most treatable is because of the awareness now which thereby gave us the knowhow. Most people know that lung cancer and bowel cancer are caused by smoking and diet. Not everyone is aware of the genesis of breast cancer, though.
I'm not suggesting there should be less awareness or consideration of breast cancer, just that those far harder cancers to treat should be given similar attention - and similar funding for research / treatment.
Prostate cancer, for example, has a comparable incidence rate to breast cancer and has very little to do with lifestyle, but gets nowhere near the same attention.
Well you can thank the pharmaceutical and insurance companies for that one. Now you know why I think everyone should be encouraged to eat at least one lemon a day. Lemons have natural cancer killers in them. I know a guy in his 80's who looks like he's in his 60's and still works out like a demon. He's healthy as a horse and never had cancer partially because he eats a spoonful of frozen lemon each meal.
I'd guess it's more to do with culture than insurance or Big Pharma.
As for lemons, meh. There are a million and one things you can eat, drink and do that have been claimed to be 'cancer killers', some of which have simultaneously been claimed to be carcinogenic.
I don't really bother taking notice. Better just to focus on a generally healthy lifestyle, and being attuned to your body so that you'll hopefully notice if something's not quite right.
As to that guy in his 80s, there have been men and women over 100 that have claimed the key to longevity is to smoke, drink and have a good time... So... I generally put that kind of thing down to genes and luck :P
"The reason breast cancer is one of the most treatable is because of the awareness now which thereby gave us the knowhow."
Yes, awareness helped us with research and helped save lives. But at this point, it's just overdone. I wouldn't be surprised if every adult and child over the age of 9 or 10 in the world knew about it and that it's bad. I don't see why shoving it down our throats and making everything come in pink is going to raise any more awareness than it already has. We get the point now. I don't think that anyone's going to forget about it and stop researching it.
IIN to be irritated by breast cancer awareness?

Cancer as a whole is a serious issue.
Whilst breast cancer is one of the most common cancers, it's also one of the most treatable, with one of the lowest mortality rates.
When you look at other cancers, such as lung cancer and bowel cancer, the incidences are rarer, but the mortality rate is incredibly high.
I can't speak for OP, but the frustration for me is seeing the disproportionate attention paid to breast cancer over other, far more deadly cancers.

True! It's not always about luck, though, but a lot of it is. I can't deny that.
