Is it normal to be in an open relationship?

Hey everyone,

I’m a 20 year old gay male in a relationship with an amazing guy. We have been together for almost 3 years and for the past year we have been in an open relationship. We both wanted to do it, and so far it’s been great, we have so much trust and we communicate very well. We are both really open minded and don’t feel as though in our relationship we have to lock eachother down.

I’ve read a lot of articles about it and they aren’t exactly positive. Even some of my very close friends think I’m insane. I struggle a lot with self esteem and I really just want to ask if being in an open relationship is considered normal, or okay atleast.

Would also like to know if anyone else is in one and has advice.

- Thanks

My advice.? Don't do it. You open yourself up to jealousy, STD's, confusion of partners, end up having feelings for one of the partners, or a partner having feelings for you, then you ignore it then they start stalking you, etc. Its just a big bucket of worms and headaches. But hey, its your life.

No it's not normal, most people do not want open relationships.

Yeah its ok. No worry other people, they here just like you, gonna die also. Waste of time they not worth a worry. And trust if any do care, it is for 10 second then they forget anyways

You’re committed to each other and not someone else.
