Is it normal to be in a dream-like state for a day or so?

So I've had these strange events 3 times so far but one time was so severe that I felt like sharing it here to hear your opinion:

It was a week before the exams and I was just going to school like a normal day, I felt a little more dream-ish than normal, wasn't really talkative and everything kind of got on my nerves, but i tought I was just having a bad day. That was until lunch started and things started to get more severe, it felt as if I was starting to lose contact with reality and I was making up every person I came across, it only gets more creepy from here on, me and my friend were walking to a bench and I started to mumple something about a squat and then I suddenly began crying without any reason (he didn't see that I was crying). 5 minutes later when we were heading back to school I started laughing excessively... but then the creepiest part of all started, another friend of mine was 4 meters away from me and apparently I was looking right into his eyes but I didn't see him. So when I came to school he was angry because he I "ignored" him.

The next day things were getting better but it still wasn't the same, instead of having extreme emotions from minute to minute I was feeling nothing at all.

There are still alot of strange things that happend that day but I don't feel like writing them all down haha.

So what do you think? Is it normal or not?

  • I think you should see a doctor, just to check if you have any illness or ailment.

It could be epilepsy as Lockets said but go see a doc.

  • Could it be a form of epilepsy perhaps? People do go into trance-like states with this sometimes.

  • It's called disassociation. I got it when I dropped out of school and got really anxious, and it came when I lost my father not soon after. When it happens again, if you look at the mirror, and it doesn't feel like you, even though it is, something like that, then its probably what happened to me. I don't know what it means but I found I stopped noticing after a while and just got on with my life. It could be related to your social life. If there is a major void in that department. Or emotionally you feel stunted, or disconnected?

  • hmm...this sounds sort of like a dissociation kind of thing...like something that would happen on PCP..or cough medicine. I did cough medicine once and felt like this a couple of times, except it was more like I was watching a tv screen when it was real life, idk about this other stuff. No, this is definitely abnormal though, if it happens again you should probably ask tell someone more qualified than the people on this site, maybe your parents? They'd be really concerned to hear this I bet.

    • Could it be because of ritalin? Because I used it to concentrate better for my exams. I already told my parents and they were really shocked. I already see a shrink for problems at school and social problems... you suggest I tell her?

  • You might have a brain tumor. See a doctor.

  • I used to have that all the time. Probably not as serious, but I'd have them maybe like once an hour for a couple seconds. Really freaked me out. I went to so many doctors but nobody could rule out what it was. :/
