Is it normal to be hungover this long?

Everywhere online says that most people my age (under 20) don’t get hangovers and when they do they aren’t as bad as older people’s. I’ve been hungover for 4 days now and it hasn’t even started to go away yet. Is it normal or should I be able to bounce back quicker?

    Whoever told you younger people don't get hanovers was bullshitting you or is dreaming! Unless you've drunk to the point of alcoholic poisoning, a hangover is mainly dehydration and digestion problems because alcohol is bad for your liver.

    If you're still feeling hungover after 4 days, how much did you drink? And on an empty stomach?

  • Here’s an idea, don’t drink alcohol.

    • Useless advice. I drink once or twice a year, I don’t need your judgemental bs. Get off your high horse please xxx

        Well, considering your low age, and the fact that it's left you like this, maybe its a good idea (;

        • I didn't ask if i should drink, i asked if it's normal to be hungover this long. If I wanted life advice I'd have asked for it

    Could be that you were slightly allergic to alcohol. If the condition gradually lessened over the days. If it stayed the same go see a doctor, might of messed with your body chemistry. Homeopathicly eat some potassium, calcium, and some iron.

    This sounds extremely miserable. I do hope it has left you by now. But for future reference, no, I definitely wouldn't say this is normal.

    It's definitely normal to get a hangover as a ANY person. But, I used to be a bit of a lush. I was able to bounce back pretty quickly at first, but then started getting them REALLY badly, and REALLY easily. I can't really drink more than a couple without feeling at least some symptoms (if not all). Still - they never last longer than 24 hours or so. (Or really, until I fall asleep again).

    As someone else pointed out - though very uncommon - you could be allergic. Or maybe even PMSing. Though usually people will recognize the latter. But even if you drink in all the wrong ways (too much, on an empty stomach, mixing) 4 days is definitely alarming, in my honest and unfortunately experienced opinion.

    You're probably fine for now, ultimately. But I would certainly look into it and DEFINITELY be very careful if there's a next time, as there could be a more concerning issue causing it to happen.

    Hopefully your hangover is over by now. Next time you drink (assuming you're legally allowed to drink; I don't know where you live) alternate each drink with water, eat food, and maybe take a B vitamin as preparation.
