Is It Normal to be "ghetto"?

  • I don’t live in the US but to me “ghetto” always seemed more a descriptor of someone’s poor manners, gawdy fashion choices and bad personal hygiene than their financial status. But then again we don’t call people “ghetto” here so I could be wrong. The closest we have is “chav” which is meant to stand for Council Housed And Violent but the literal meaning is no longer strictly adhered to and it has basically evolved into “rude abrasive classless person” (some of whom are from surprisingly well off families.)

    • You've got the right idea about it. I don't know why some people like being ghetto either. The culture sucks
