  • Look up the numbers on gun-related crimes in Denmark over the past year. Heck, the past 10 years.

Not to bash your right to own a gun, just saying - raw data doesn't lie.

This isn't very complete, but just to give you an idea:

    • however if you look up the crimes in the US most gun-related crimes are self-inflicted vs attacks on others.

      seriously, over half really.

granted i understand being scared now. it's just a sore point here because some people are trying to take away our legal rights because they disagree with them.

      • Well, for every 100,000 people living in Denmark, the WORST it's ever been when it comes to gun-related homicides (murder with guns) there was 1.5 deaths per year.

In the USA, for every 100,000 people living there, when it comes to gun-related homicides (not self-inflicted or anything like that) the worst it's been is 7 deaths per year.

People are trying to take away your legal rights because you live in a democracy, which gives the people the power to try and change their country for what they believe to be the better.

        • except that some of our rights are guaranteed by our constitution.

we already had one victory just yesterday when a supreme court judge ruled that a state cannot require legal gun owners to provide a reason why they want to own guns.

"A citizen may not be required to offer a 'good and substantial reason' why he should be permitted to exercise his rights," Legg wrote. "The right's existence is all the reason he needs."

          • So they don't have to tell the guy selling it they're going to point it at a girl's face and tell her to shut up while they rape her

            • Sorry, that was unfair :( Just... it's weird to cope with. I don't even know really how to do it.

              • The problem is... people sometimes assume that "owning a gun" is what created the criminal. When in fact a criminal will just use another weapon if there is no gun available. Be it a stick or a knife or something they make themselves.

Sure there are countries where there are no guns and less crime - some jump to the conclusion that the reason for this is the lack of guns. I mean I've lived in Japan and I feel perfectly safe to walk down a dark alley at night alone... because there's no guns? No, because it's Japan and the culture is vastly different.

People make the problems, not the tools.

As for coping... You might want to see about going to a gun range and learning how to shoot. It may provide some catharsis.

And you may find that the stereotypes some countries have about our gun-owners are ... well, stereotypes, and not actually what you encounter when you talk to them.
