You have to understand we are animals and are governed by our biological needs. We want mates that appear health and will produce strong offspring. On a social level, there is pressure to be attractive ourselves and to have an attractive significant other. A lot of people give into these biological and social pressures. Of course we also capable of higher thinking, but hey I guess its life.
