I don't drink milk directly. Usually only when it's an ingredient in something else. Even though I agree with the philosophy of vegans, I couldn't live as a vegan because even living as a vegetarian is somewhat difficult when 90% of the dishes at every restaurant contain meat, and the remainder that are vegetarian dishes usually contain a dairy product.
So you're saying you eat meat when eating out? You're not being very clear.
I have vegan friends who live in rural SC and they manage to live according to their ethics with ease. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, in a country such as the US, it's "too difficult" to do something you're supposedly so passionate about. Particularly if you're gonna chuck a tanty online about someone poisoning rats.
I feel like the problem you're having with reading my post is that when I say I'm not vegan, you automatically assume I'm saying I'm carnivorous. I'm not saying I'm carnivorous. Veganism and Vegetarianism aren't synonyms, despite what most uneducated people think. It isn't binary. It isn't "if you're not vegan, you must be carnivorous"
I'm not saying it's impossible for me to be vegan. It's possible, just very difficult. I don't want to have to go out of my way to obtain sustenance. If society was structured in such a way that it catered to vegans, I would definitely be vegan, but that's not how society is. As it is, vegetarianism is already pretty limiting, but I put up with it because I care about animal welfare. If I were vegan, I would not be able to eat ANYTHING at the majority of social gatherings, so I am VEGETARIAN instead, so I at least have a small amount of food options anywhere I go.
I know the difference between the two. Im refering to you saying,
"I couldn't live as a vegan because even living as a vegetarian is somewhat difficult when 90% of the dishes at every restaurant contain meat, and the remainder that are vegetarian dishes usually contain a dairy product."
What's that got to do with anything unless you eat meat when out?
Oh no, restaurants don't cater for vegans. Do you HAVE to eat out? No. You choose to. My vegan friends ask for small changes to their meal if necessary, like no butter or milk, and also bring their own dressings, etc, if needed.
Your family doesn't have the same values? Are you incapable of making your own meals?
Quit criticising others for not living by your supposed values when you choose not to yourself.
And quit pretending this whole post wasn't a thinly veiled attempt at bashing one particular person. You pathetic little worm.
Charli, you must have not gotten very much sleep. Your reading comprehension isn't so hot today. I did not write that I eat meat when I eat out. I explained why I'm a vegetarian instead of a vegan. I explained that most of the restaurants in my area do not cater to vegans, on top of the rest of my family being omnivorous, so I had to switch to being vegetarian. I DO NOT eat meat, understand?
IIN to be disgusted by people who remove rats with poison?

Was vegan for a couple of years. Switched to vegetarianism because it's the lesser of 2 evils, and veganism is too difficult a lifestyle in my area.

Awesome. Why is your opinion relevant, again?
