Is it normal to be depressed when finishing a book?

Each and every time I finish a book, I feel depressed. Sometimes I just sit and stare at the cover for ten or more minutes, just feeling crappy. It wears off after about half an hour, but I still find it odd.

I get that way too. Especially at the end of a series.

Well if you really get into the book then yes it's normal. That's how I felt after not having any books to read a few years back, but I was also homeless at the time and in a really bad place. The books brought me a temporary happiness and a way to get away from the world.

I'm sad when I finish a great book, but not necessarily depressed. If I want depression, I read Kafka.

It is specially disappointing when series end. My favorite manga series ended in December, 2012 and I haven't read the last issue because I'm scared it'll get over and i don't want it to.

When I complete certain novels, especially the ones which take 3 or 4 days, i feel a bit sad and continue living in that world for a day or two. And at the same time, books have helped me take my mind off sadder events in life.

I think it is pretty normal unless you get too carried away and do something stupid.

Yes. Sometimes when you read a book you find it so good you just don't want to stop. I find myself that way, with movies too, especially at the end of a big series like Harry Potter. After that I find another book to read and it usually goes away.

Well...you spend a lot of time getting to know the characters as they develop. It's like a goodbye when it ends. I feel the same way!

Yep. When I read a really good book like "The Scarlet Petal and the White". It's like leaving part of yourself behind.
