So would humans if it was socially acceptable. Most animals do it. I think it's to tell if a potential partner is in season or not. Humans, being far more sophisticated, have developed rules that you have to go on a date, and you've got to let the woman have the seat facing the door, and afterwards you have to wait a certain time before phoning, and you have to pretend to be mildly uninterested even if you already love the very pants off her.
The reason animals do it is a little thing called a pheromone. Humans produce them too, but generally aren't effected the same way animals are. Dogs can smell pheromones easily though, hence why smelling (and getting turned on) by a woman's vagina happens.
If your with a guy or a girl, and their "scent" stays on your hand, even after you've washed it, that is a pheromone.
IIN to be curious to explore why dogs sniff assholes and privates?
