I guess it's normal. For a while I considered the fact that I no longer believed in Christianity. That, and I had atheistic tendencies.
I'm now a atheist/Buddhist. I've meet people who didn't think it was normal to be a Buddhist and insisted that I believed in god.
Allot of the people I've met have considered any religion or anyone who didn't believe in god to not be normal. I've come across allot of people who have an intense hatred towards atheists. I've never been able to understand it.
I once knew a guy who was an agnostic. One of my family members found out and "tried to pray for his soul" saying that he was "going to go to hell". One of my dearest friends is Jewish. I've always loved Jewish people. But I've met people who were very angry towards them.
I think everywhere you go, there will always be someone that hates you for what you believe in. Exactly why do you ask this question? Yes, Catholicism is very controversial.... But if you think you're one, then there shouldn't be a problem with it:)
