i'm a 23 yr old white woman who was born and raised in the deep south and i am currently dating a black man (my family doesn't know yet). whenever i bring up the topic of interracial dating they all say how disgusting and abnormal it is to be attracted to black people. i can only imagine how upset they would be if they found out about my boyfriend

    It's normal if you are genuinely attracted to black men. If you're into black guys just because it would freak out your folks or to be rebellious then I would say it's not uncommon, but not normal and healthy either.

      Neither side is bad. Dating a black guy is fine but so is preferring to date within your own race.

      I personally have zero attraction to black males or females.

        I'm not attracted to black males either. When I read the post I was getting the feeling that they were trying to dissuade her from dating her preference. Just because someone doesn't like something, doesn't mean they should tell others they shouldn't do it, especially if it's harmless.     You are definitely not a horrible person at all for loving a black man. You can love whomever you want even if they're of a different ethnicity. I understand why you would feel bad though because your family's opinion means something to you. And not having their support makes it really hard to love yourself. If your family loves you and wants you to be happy, they'll accept him for who he is even if they aren't particularly happy about your choice.
