I know a few people that are like this. It's not totally normal but some people just don't like to socialize.
I wish I was this way. Whenever I am out in public long enough, I end up in a conversation with someone, whether it be a friend or random stranger. I have had to stop trying to study at the mall. Last time I was studying at a restaurant in the mall and I saw an old lady wandering around alone and invited her to my table, and then I ended up hanging out with a woman and her child for an hour.
I didn't get any reading done. I wish I was more anti-social sometimes.
