I think it is normal not to like your name. Younger people that lack the brains to respect non-common names and only accept names such as Michael, Chris and Jennifer are simply missing out. I'll be honest though, Echo Athena is very attractive~ I wish I'd meet someone my age with a name like that, I do know someone whos first name is Athena though. I also find that quieter people end up having much better personalities compared to the more outspoken ones. However if you truly don't like it then wanting to go by something else is completely okay, I have a friend who did that simply because most can't pronounce his real name.
While creative names are unique and probably accepted better to older people, I do think that careful planning is required to make sure your situation doesn't happen though. I heard of a girl named something that sounded like "my ear" and you can imagine how that went.
