  • we're also born not knowing about science too.

although if you think about it, many scientific "facts" are often believed on the basis that you think someone else proved it, without actually investigating it by oneself.

    • Yes, but the fact is that they HAVE been proven by someone. If science isn't 100% repeatable, objective and logically sound, it would never get published. Unlike every religious text.

Ultimately we have to believe what somebody else said about 99% of the things we know. Personally, I'd rather believe someone with a PhD than someone who heard voices in his head.

      • so you assume.

and you're forgetting - many of those PhDs also believe. so where does that leave you?

        =)

        • They believe because they trust the reliability of previous PhDs.

If you want to follow the chain of belief backwards, science eventually gets you to someone making observations, drawing the most logical conclusion and publishing the results.
If you follow religion's chain of belief backwards, you eventually get to someone who said "I heard God talking to me."

          • You misunderstand.

When I say that many of PhDs also "believe" ... I'm talking religion.

So where does it leave you when these highly valued PhDs you tout also are religious?

            • So, you've just admitted yourself that religious belief degrades the credibility of a PhD? I agree with that. Thankfully, the majority of scientists are not religious.

              • i said nothing of the sort.

what i'm asking you is... if you put so much faith into what a PhD says, what do you say when that same scientist ALSO worships?

if anything i'm pointing out the holes in your statement that you believe what PhDs say because... those doctors often believe in God too.

Therefore if what they say is so true then their statements on religion are not false.

                *grin*
