  • Being skeptical of the country is a whole lot better than people who are blindly patriotic. That being said the US isn't all that bad, no country is perfect.

    • It has also been said that the people who are skeptical of their governments are true patriots!

      • Being skeptical is one thing, which I have nothing against. I just hate the people who act like America is wrong no matter what.

        • ...or the ones who insist America is the "only" or "best" or exclusively anything else. I hear ya...you make a good point.

It's not unusual to question one's own culture and society, and to appreciate what does work well, but be frustrated with what does not work well. As someone rightly pointed out, each society does some things well, but no society is perfect. Those who see positive examples in other countries sometimes are frustrated by the unwillingness shown by members of one's own society to even acknowledge a problem, let alone seek a solution they themselves didn't develop or think up.

Just because you are frustrated with your society doesn't mean you "hate" it...it just means you're aware and you see areas for improvement.

Because I've lived in more than one country and have had the opportunity to travel, I've had the privilege to see "how other folks do it," so to speak, in terms of making society good and successful. I was frustrated and angry, too, but realized that it's normal to question. Be glad your government even allows you to question and have a critical discussion like this - there are still places where even questioning "how things are done" means instant imprisonment on trumped up charges.

Maybe you could be a leader in the community to help bring about the changes you'd like to see. :)

      • Agreed! It's those people who really care about where the country is going.

      • Yeah I get that. As I said, the country isn't perfect, but it isn't all that bad either. The US may have problems, but if one lived in any truly poor country or a country with even worse corrupt government, I'm sure they would be happy to return to the US.

My point is, blindness to a countries problems is idiotic, but so is treating any developed country like it is a terrible place when there is way worse out there.
