Is it normal to be always be grumpy in the morning

No matter what I do I am horribly mean and grumpy when I first wake up and up to several hours later. No matter if I get ten hours of sleep and get up with plenty of time to get ready for work I am still in a horrible mood. I have tried to get up and drink a big glass of water or a sports drink thinking that maybe I was dehydrated from the 8-10 hours without food or drink. I have started taking a multivitamin because a B vitamin deficiency can cause moodiness. I tried drinking coffee for a bit and it did not help either

Is It Normal?

  • This used to be me. I had no problem actually waking up, but once I was up I didn't want to communicate with anyone and I just HATED the morning and the sound of an alarm. I found this alarm app on my android phone (so i'm sure iphones have it and you can set a standard alarm to do the same procedure). Its called the "Gentle Alarm" you set a pre-alarm for 30 minutes before you actually wake up. Basically it preps you for the alarm by waking you up out of deep sleep so that when your actual alarm goes off you aren't alerted from deep sleep and thus is a gentler way to wake you. You just set the pre-alarm to be loud enough for you to subconsciously hear it but it doesn't physically wake you up so you will never notice you have it set. I dunno try it. I was totally surprised the first day I used it and the mornings are so much more tolerable

  • Oh my. I am so grumpy when I wake up. My husband wants to talk and talk when he knows I just woke up. I don't say it but I just want to scream "why are you talking?" I think it's because I don't sleep well. I need peace and quiet in the morning.

  • I know i am not a morning person at all either. Like my mood would change around 4ish in the afternoon. Before that i feel grumpy angry and no energy to do what so ever.

  • I used to do that,now when i wake up i do some streches and drink a little coffee then i wash my face and im fully awake and in a great mood!Then i do the regular stuff-brush my teeth,get changed,eat breakfast,ect.

  • For most people, I guess it's normal. For me, it's the opposite. I have a great mood in the morning after a good night's sleep, and get grumpier as time passes by. I usually go to sleep quite upset.

  • I sometimes do this, but mainly because I want to sleep hence not enough sleep. You should try thinking of happy thoughts.
