If you are blessed to have parents who love you, please, please, please don't rob your parents of being parents. What I mean by this is please tell your parents what's going on. Chances are they already know something is wrong, but if you are shutting them out, they can't help you. If you have parents you can talk to, they are going to be the foundation for you to get better.
Step 1 - Talk to your parent(s).
Step 2 - Find a doctor with a great attitude who takes depression seriously and treats it like the legitimate disease it is because there are some so-called doctors who are real assholes when it comes to people battling depression. And it is a battle, but it is a win-able battle!
Step 3 - Take a parent with you to the doctor (make sure your parent goes in with you when you actually SEE the doctor, don't leave mom or dad in the waiting room).
Step 4 - TAKE THE MEDICINE!
Step 5 - If the medicine you are prescribed is not working, keep on until you find a prescription that works.
Step 6 - Exercise, stay away from foods heavy in sugar, stay away from alcohol and illegal drugs.
Step 7 - If you have anyone in your life that you know is not a real friend, dump 'em. You don't owe them a reason if their not a real friend anyway.
Step 8 - Find your passion (music, writing, singing, doing for the needy, etc.)
is it normal to be afraid to ask for help (with my depression)?
