I don’t put much stock in it. If I recall correctly her other children made no such claims and said she was a constant liar from a young age. And others that worked around and associated with the household said it was made up too.

She made it up because she was cut from the will, for petty revenge and money. A strong motive to lie and zero evidence pointing to her stories being true.

Joan was strict and cold, but that was a very common style of parenting in households of the time. Could it be true and somehow nobody saw any of this, yes, but it’s unlikely. I’d say she was being a brat and overdramatising standard childhood discipline of the time to suit herself.
