that's actually how most serial killers start.. or killers in general. torturing and killing defenseless creatures for pleasure is like the sickest thing ever. so if you really mean it, NO it's NOT normal, and instead of looking for others who relate to this horrible habit, i stromgly advice you to get some help, if you don't wanna end up torturing and slicing bigger creatures - like humans - whenever the animals don't fulfill you anymore, which will happen sooner of later. go to a psychiatrist!!!!!
