Is it normal to be a mma fighter who hates to hurt people?

I am an amateur MMA competitor in VA. I have won 3 out of 4 fights, 2 wins were by submission and 1 by TKO due to punches. I think that there is a stereotype that you have to be some sort of sadist that enjoys hurting people to do this sport. I don't like hurting people but this is the only sport that I really connect with. I love competing but I always feel bad afterwards if I hurt the other person in anyway.

Is It Normal?

  • I use to be in MMA. I was one of the most viscous people there. That was only when I fought though. I use to make people cry and I felt bad. I use to also get in a lot of fights at school and it made me feel like a horrible person. Since I did not like hurting people. I never started the fight and was usually outnumbered but I could run and I could fight. It is normal to enjoy brawling but not like hurting people. Its the spirit of the sport not wanting to hurt others. I stopped going because we moved.
