I'm a 27 year old male who has never been in a romantic relationship or had sex despite my best efforts. I am sociable, I have many friends, both male and female, work out three times a week, and am a physician. I am a totally clueless when it comes to romance. I think there are some implied social cues that I fail to pick up on or something.

Hell just based on the fact that your popular means your probably pretty attractive, smart and doing well financially based on your career and hot body as you workout.... from my experience in being in the same boat at the time of this response I'm 35 and I was just about to turn 27 with an unsheithed penis. At the time I've only made out and masturbated an awful lot. Even after loosing the virginity I still remained addicted to masturbation.
I have a strong theory that in order to get addicted to women you would have to have started having sex with them in your teens. When I was 21 and came out as virgin I didn't know I was sideshowing my masturbation habit as well. Most of the time women require experienced Men if they have a game on, but if they're in a dryspell you could be lucky. Just don't go for women that have their game on.
Define normal. The 'normal' age for someone to loose their virginity is different for different people. Don't do anything until you're ready.
