It's more common in recent years for people to be living with their parents these days, considering we are in the second great depression, its too expensive for most people to move out, in some cases, people have moved back in after losing their home. As far as the lack of ambition towards leaving, not so normal, at least as far as US/Canadian standards are concerned. (I can't speak for others).
