Is it normal to be 19 and still have imaginary people in your head?

I'm serious I'm 19 and i still have imaginary people in my head and i've always have since i was small but they change all the time. Like now there's three girls who all have southern accents and one of them is my friend and the other used to be my friend but she hates me now. And there's another one thats really quiet but she doesn't mind me. And my 12 year old sister told me that she still talks to people in her head too and when she was younger it was pretty obvious she had imaginary friends cuz she would talk to them out loud in her room or all around the house when she was small :) so it kind of makes me feel that maybe i'm not too weird cuz i have a sister who's the same way but idk compared to everyone else in the world :/ yeah fyi the friends in my head are starting to fade now like they're not as "real" as they were, say, a couple years ago

Is It Normal?

  • Schizophrenia.
It causes you to think you have voices or people living inside your head.
Some forms of schizophrenia also cause you to think that other things are talking to you too (EX: birds, furniture, posters, etc...)
But if the voices are fading, that's good. and you at least acknowledge that they ARE imaginary. That means if it is a form of schizophrenia, it's nothing you need to worry about.
Watch your sister, make sure she realizes these people aren't real. If she thinks they are make sure to have her seen.
Hope I helped at least a bit.

  • I am the same age and do the exact same thing. But the only difference between me and you is that I use my characters to write books and plays. Its so entertaining. Thats prob how the lady who wrote Harry Porter felt when she thought those thoughts but look at her now!

  • Simple cure = get out more, do things that occupy your conscience. Quit focusing on your thoughts and they will disappear and become normal

    • Hiya,

I'm physically disabled and a lot of people I come into contact who are can't talk at all or frighten me with their behaviour. I can't stand it.

I've written stories since I was little. I wrote a song about a fictional character once for a laugh. I luv him like mad, but I still know he's fictional. The time to worry is when I think he isn't! I'm much happier with him in my life than I would be without him.Close friends/family know

I'm glad I’ve got a good imagination – what upset me more was trying to suppress it. If there was no imaginative people there'd be no good books to read or songs to listen to.

  • I think it's healthy. I talk to people too that aren't real. I hear that AT LEAST 2/5 people talk to made-up people up to age 40.
