Is it normal to be 29 and never have masturbated?

I'm a 29 y/o heterosexual male and have never masturbated. I've also never had a girlfriend. When I was a teenager the thought never occurred to me (I was brought up in a religious setting). When I was a bit older I finally connected the dots and realized what, uh, all the talk was about... I tried a few times in the past couple of years but have never been successful. About once a month or every couple of months I'll have a nocturnal emission (which has nothing to do with what I was dreaming about because when it happens I'll wake up immediately, and the dreams are completely random and not at all erotic). This used to happen more often when I was younger, but over time it happens less and less often.

Is It Normal?

  • No harm but definitely not normal. 92 percent of all men have experienced self-induced orgasm by age 18

  • It's hard for me to relate to this, since I'm an eighteen-year-old who started masturbating when I was six, but I'll give it a go. I think it's normal that if you were brought up in a strict, closed-off, religious home, relating society's image of sex with your personal body is a difficult endeavor. "The body is a temple", and all that, plus the "sacredness of union" or whatever the religious like to preach. You're probably just inhibited, both physically since you haven't really gotten to know your body sexually yet, and mentally because you have all these reservations from your upbringing. The important thing is to accept your body for what it is- a sometimes-sexual vehicle, and that there's no shame in that.

If you've touched yourself at all, then you've masturbated, regardless of whether not you climaxed. All I can suggest is for you to relax, do what feels good, and don't stress out if it takes you a while to get there. Everybody (and every body ;) is different.
