I never drank at 18, and sometimes the pressure was high. But I learned that those who minded didn't matter, and those that mattered, didn't mind. That gave me self confidence, so it was worth sticking out. As I got older, I learned to nurse a single drink all night, just to make others more comfortable with their choice to drink. Sometimes, life us about navigating other peoples insecurity. I'm 40 now and haven't had my arm twisted to drink in decades. This phase really does pass. Sometimes still comes up in work situations, but mostly no one notices anymore. Last year, on a spur, got drunk with my hubby just to see. Silly when drunk, but it wasn't much more fun. I'm unlikely to do it again, but it was ok once for curiosity. It's all normal, people pressure you because they are insecure, so try not to take it too personally. The gems are the ones, drinkers or not, who are OK with your choices and their own.
