i was going to ask the same thing. i hate using people's names when i'm talking to them. i don't mind it as much when i'm talking about them, but unless the person knows them well, i usually prefer to say "my best friend" or "my friend" rather than actually naming the person. i also hate it when people call me by name. i don't mind nicknames or pet names so much (a lot of my friends and i have pet names for each other.) and i absolutely cannot stand it when my partner calls me by my name. it seems very formal or stuffy or something.... or maybe it's because of some superstition about once you know someone's name you have power over them (or something like that).
