Is it normal to always use both a condom and the pill?

  • Your friends need to do a lot of self-educating: the pill prevents pregnancy, condoms are fairly reliable at preventing pregnancy but also prevent transmission of most STD's.

You are not paranoid, you are sensible.

By the way, you don't just "use the pill" when you have sex - if it's going to be soon as you say you need to get on it now because as far as I know it doesn't work straight away. Also as far as I know, side effects from the modern pills are minimal for most women.

If you're only going to use one, I'd go for the condoms, but they can fail too.

    • 7-14 days perfect use, from the ones I've seen. And some only work if you start from the first day of your period, for some reason. Others are safe to start at amy time during your cycle. But different types can have different side effects. My first one made me bleed randomly and heavily for weeks...

      • But they're not safe straight away surely? Doesn't the hormone have to build up in your body?

        • That's what I just said...7-14 days of perfect use before you're protected.

I thought repeating that after I said some can be started at any point in the menstrual cycle was reduntant repetition...
