Is it normal to always down pick everything?

    Double picking is the way to go if you want to play with speed. Depending on your style simple down picking can be fine though. It's a good way for a beginner.

      Agreed - down picking is how most people learn and it's a surefire sign that you haven't been playing long. Alternate picking is a must!
