Is it normal to act like a cat?

I only do it around my friends and family. It's gone on for about 8 years. I meow as a response, but if they don't understand what I mean, then I'll answer yes or no. I'll also meow when greeting or saying bye to them, and move my hand in a waving paw motion. Sometimes when I approach them, I will rub my paws against their arm to get their attention or meow until they respond. This is really the only time I do it. I talk normally afterwards, and if they are annoyed then I stop.

  • Some of the best people I know are house cats! Of course they're furry, walk on all fours, have fish breath and poop in boxes.

    • I don't know... I can think of a few people I wouldn't mind jumping up on me excitedly when I get home, or humping my leg.

      • haha. Well…. I am sure that would make for a rather interesting experience.

My comment was coming from personal experiences. It's really embarrassing but when I was a kid, I went through these phases where I really wanted to be a dog. I would act like a dog. I remember staying at one of my aunts and her husband's home. They had a party and I acted like a dog. I was completely oblivious to how abnormal this was. The faces and comments people made never registered with me. I didn't realize how bad I was making myself and my aunt look.

Even worse, I think that I was no longer in kindergarten when I did this…

        • I played 'cat' with a female neighbour of mine, once.

We even put out a saucer of milk to lap, wore fake tails and crawled around on our knees.

Thankfully we were around 6 at the time, so not too embarrassing.

          • That's cute.

I think the party incident happened when I was either 7-9 years of age.

  • Most kids get over this sort of silliness at 5 or 6. Time to act like a human unless you are way too young to even be posting on here.
I'm absolutely positive nobody thinks it's cute any more.

  • Species dysphoria. Im a cat too. I dont meow or lick myself but i do sleep most the day and relate to cats more than most people. I also dress like a cat sometimes and have quite a few hats with cat ears i have made. I dont give a shit how weird it is.

  • I act like a cat too. I sleep over 12 hours a day and quickly moving pieces of string catch my eye.

  • I knew someone from elementary school who acted so much like a cat that it was a little scary. She was my friend, but she started becoming too into being a cat that she tried scratching someone in class while pouncing. When the teacher said that was wrong, she retreated back and licked her hand like a cat. That was about 9 years ago. She's now 18 and isn't like that.
