Anyway you're probably coming into contact with alien life every day. Just as we evolved, other things are evolving from alien microbes all the time.
We either can't see them with the naked eye, or they've already evolved into something we think of as normal, or maybe you can hear/see things other people can't. I mean who's got the physical evidence to say it's an 'illness' rather than some other life?
I like how you think on this topic. Perhaps trees are just very slow moving alien life forms that exist on a different time perspective. How would we know??
