I've seen all of those examples on TV before, even the toilet attendant. There was a show a few months ago, I think on Channel 4, about goings on in nightclub toilets. Some of the attendants came across as pretty introspective.
In reality also. My mum works in an industry plenty of people would call evil, but she's a sweetheart. I have a friend who joined the army, and she's lovely too. The impact of the roles we play in society is super important and something everyone should think about, but not because it tells us anything concrete about the nature of an individual (no matter how much some people try to use spurious examples to reinforce tired stereotypes instead of doing something more useful :P). People are more complicated than that.
