    I'm wondering if you were being sarcastic or serious about your 'ingenuity.' However there's a few solutions you should've considered:

    1-turn off pipes inside house, open exposed pipes that can freeze and drain them of water.

    2-buy and install heat tape.

    3-for the noise, tie a string or tie a spoon to it and use that to give the dripping water a pathway to drop, then you'll have silence.

    I really should be paid for all the great advice I give to people and for improving their lives.

      I was talking about the ingenious ideas I came up with to thaw pipes that had frozen up.

      1. I live here, I need running water.

      2. Heat tape is not an option, I don't have the $ for it right now and even if I did, installing it would be a nightmare that I'm not willing to take on at the current time.

      3. I have cats. Very curious and playful cats. This does not work. It actually causes more problems than it solves.
