Is it normal the my ribs aren't completely symmetrical?

When I look down at my ribs the look sort of deformed. I'm just wondering if this is rare or not. It's not hard like my ribs healed that way, in fact they have never been broken as far as I know. Could the bumps/lumps possibly just be leftover fat? The past few years I've grown a bit taller and have gotten a bit thinner so could that be the case? Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • One side of my ribs dips in noticeably and on the same side, my shoulder blade sticks out. I have scoliosis, so I think it's related to that. I don't know if it's normal or not, but if it's hard to the touch, I doubt it's lumps of fat.

  • The right side of my rib cage sticks out more than my left. It is quite noticeable too. But I don't bother, that's just the way I am.

  • Count 'em. You'll find out there's one more on one side.

  • Yeah, it's normal. The body is in no way symmetrical. One way to find out if this is a big deal or not is to go see your doctor and have him or her check you out. I have a disease that causes the point at which my ribs come together (at the sternum) to be a little misaligned. One side sticks out a little bit. But it's not enough that people can see it when I have a shirt on.
