Is it normal that you think it's normal?

This may not be important but checking up on all these Is It Normal questions lead to me thinking, how DO YOU know it is normal and isn't?

If you do something the person does and no one else does, does that make it normal? Just because you do it?

If you do something others do, does that make it normal?

What makes something normal?

You actually, technically cannot define normal. You cannot generalize that the majority of people doing something makes it normal, seeing as a lot of people do lie about what they do, like, etc. So normal is just a perception we have created to justify what we do and think is right or okay.

By asking if something is normal, most just want to know if others have had a similar experience. As "herd animals", there is comfort in numbers!

    This is a tired discussion.
An interesting question: What is normal? But a tired discussion.
A simple answer that, for all intents and purposes works, is:
    Majority rule

It is all relative. A normal reaction to a situation can be defined as something common and expected based on experience. This includes a range of possibilities. But what is normal for me, isn't always normal for you. But sometimes it can be. You still need a control group to make the judgment.

It is normal for someone with OCD to wash their hands 20 times a day. But it isn't normal for someone without it. yet at the same time, it is normal for a doctor or health care practitioner to do this but it doesn't make them OCD. You have to look at the whole story.

IMO- there isn't a "normal" for anything. Everyone and everything is different. People have certain quirks, or fetishes, or obsessions, but because one or more people have it does not make it normal. If everyone was normal, how lame would that be?! I'm glad no one is normal, it adds a lot more diversity to the world! I know I'm not normal, I'm me! Now I don't have any freakish fetishes or obsessions or anything, but I have random little things about me that make me who I am and set me aside from all others. So if I'm not the exact same as others, then I would be consider different and not normal... GO ME! LoL
