Is it normal that we didn't have sex yet after a year?

My boyfriend and I have been happily dating for a bit more than a year, and we've gone up to third base. Is this normal? How long did you wait before you had sex with your partner?

If you are an adult - and granted there are no rules - dating and fooling around for over a year I wonder what is stopping you both. But there may be many reasons.

My personal history of my long-term relationships:
-1st serious relationship: waited a few weeks or months....this relationship ended horribly a few years later
-2nd serious relationship: waited one week....this relationship was a little bit better but we broke up
-my current relationship: we did not wait at all, actually we had sex before we started dating and this has been the longest and best relationship I have ever had, we have been together for more than five years and I hope we will be together forever.

I'm in the best relationship of my life, and we had sex a couple days after we met. We've been together over a year now, and are getting married in six months.

I begun dating my girl at 15, and had sex when we were 16. Shes a month older than me, and we have split a while back.

When I started dating my boyfriend (now fiance) three years ago I told myself I would wait a month, because he was my first serious boyfriend. Thing is, I never felt that sex was that big of a deal, so we slept together after three weeks.

If both of you are totally okay with this, and not sitting there frustrated because the other won't have sex, then it's perfectly normal and you should continue not having sex for as long as you feel is right :)

If sex doesn't happen within a few days, I'd usually move on to someone else.

It's not normal at all. Mutual attraction must be very low. I always do it within a week or I'd assume she's not attracted enough to me.

I say if it's for the right person nobody should have a problem waiting. My first gf and I didn't have sex for the entire 9 months we dated because she wasn't ready for it. She tried once to muster up the courage because she thought it would make me happy but by that point I just didn't want to anymore.

Then like a year later I met a girl who was so amazing and easy to talk to but she didn't believe in sex before marriage and let me tell you, if it meant that I had a shot with her, I would have had no problem with that.

I met him when I was eighteen, we were friends until I was twenty-four so I hesitate between six years and six hours.

It's different for each person. I know people who had sex in the first date and some waited a few years. I'm engaged and my fiancé and I are waiting until we're marred. Don't feel pressured to do it a a certain point because it's expected.
