A man with a tie really makes me hot. He could be very unattractive , throw on a shirt and tie and I'll still get aroused at the thought.

However, I have heard its a symbol of slavery, representing the chain around the neck.

Either way it is a mark of respect both to yourself and other people. A well dressed person has respect for themselves and other people usually.
I've always thought the tie was to mimic the colorful breasts of the male birds.
I have not worn a suit and tie since Christmas dinner 1969, at my future inlaw's home. It is not a comfortable form of dress, nor attractive to me. I will wear a uniform (as when I ran a cruise ship), but still without the tie. Seems silly to wear a tie on a boat.
It's just a theory I read. I can see the bird thing being a reason too. But the tie Supposedly replaced the sword in symbolism, which is very phallic. In medieval times a mans sword was an important status symbol, not unlike a car today. It became an accessory and not a necessity.
Regardless of theory, it's all about the man showing off. Although personally, I think they look ridiculous.
Seeing a man dressed up and well groomed is a total turn on! I think it's normal.
