I close the lid when flushing. I have polite discussions with people about that when necessary.
So yes the toilet seat argument continues I suppose. I would not have anybody move in with me without having an agreement that the lid is to be kept down once anybody of any gender has made use of the toilet!
I agree with the OP that if the reason for the argument is that women wish to avoid touching it, then they need to have a better cleaning schedule. However, the argument we had in my household while growing up was that the boys attempted to urinate through the hole in the seat instead of raising it, because *they* did not want to touch it. They often failed to avoid leaving splashes of urine on the seat and that is disgusting. Very upsetting to rush to the bathroom and sit in urine :(
IIN that the toilet seat issue with men and women is still a thing?

So do I! I don't want toilet water vapour all over my bathroom surfaces---including my toothbrush.
Me too!
