Is it normal that the rainbow symbol is used by homosexuals?

  • Ah, but what if you lived back in the mid 1800's and loved to wear white pointed hoods with little eye holes cut out? Then a few years later the KKK comes and ruins it for you!! 140 years later and you STILL can't pull off the pointy hood!!

Point is, you can't go around wearing a white pointy hood without people assuming you are a KKK member, and having to deal with the repercussions of those assumptions. People are reluctant to have anything to do with a rainbow for fear either someone might wrongly assume they're gay or perpetrate some kind of hate/violence/vandalism upon their person or property. I used a negative example, but it's a good illustration-'I am not a member of that group, and I don't want to be confused as one, for good OR bad'

The OP's argument is not without merit. Part of my first post on the topic was in jest, but I do see what the OP is saying and I do tend to agree.

    • This actually kind of happened to me.
My sister offered to make a Pikmin hat for me, but refused when I asked for a white one because "it would look too much like a K.K.K. hat".
Such a shame, white pikmin are adorable. :<

    • Funnily enough, I think we have pretty similar views here. You understood what I was getting at.

It would be easy to argue that people shouldn't wear pointy hoods because of what it has come to mean (something negative).

But it's also a valid argument to ask why people should think being gay should be treated in the same way as being racist.
