My cousin (middle child of 3) went through the same thing. He eventually separated himself from his siblings by being extraordinary - it was like suddenly he was better at school than his siblings, he engaged in music, dressed however he wanted, got a job first (along with the car etc) and along with doing this his confidence superseded the want for more attention (though he got it anyway). He is the most successful and awesome person out of that family but it wasnt always that way. He is completely comfortable and confident within himself and everyone is jealous of his life now :) thats just a story that may or may not help you but I thought I would share it in case it means something to you.
