I think it doesn't have to do with anything he might feel about you. I suspect he comes from a troubled home, so he has grown violent. People like that DOES need help, BUT, if you get romantically involved with one, you are going to get hurt. Getting romantically involved with a troubled person makes you vulnerable. They are not bad though. They need help. But, I repeat, it is NOT advisable to get romantically involved with one.
For your own sake, I would suggest you end the romantic relationship with him. But if you really love him, you could choose to help him as a friend. However, this could be risky for you, so maybe you could just leave and seek outside help for him.
Violent people are victims of their own frustrations and traumas, so they often get it out on others, even the people they love the most.
