Is it normal that the contraceptive pill is making me bisexual?

I'm a 20 year old girl, virgin, and I take the pill to keep my skin clear. I noticed that it decreases my labido a lot to the point I consider myself asexual. I feel a lot more attracted to guys when I'm not on the pill. I CAN still find them attractive, it's just more rarely now. But as a weird side effect, the idea of having a girlfriend has become a lot more appealing to me. I've always been curious as to what it's like to kiss a girl, even before I started taking the pill, but I had never ever found the idea of having a girlfriend appealing until very recently (even though the idea also scares the hell out of me because of social stigma by other people!) It's also only girly girls I find attractive, not boyish-looking girls. But the guys I find attractive are 'pretty' guys (though the latter has always been the case for me, even before the pill).

    this has nothing to do with your pill. i can guarantee you you'll still be having these thoughts if you dump the pill.

    The pill is primarily supposed to prevent pregnancy. I'd say it's doing its job.

    The pill changes levels of hormones etc and does have an influence on these things. But it's probably not the cause, you'd probably still have these feelings if you weren't on it. Most women experiences changes in libido if on the pill and changes during their natural cycles. Research has shown that what women are attracted to (physically and even emotionally) can change at different points in their cycles. I will say this - please, please, please go with what you truly desire rather than being restricted by 'social stigma'. Anyone who wants to judge you for being bisexual needs to get their head screwed on and move into the 21st century. Don't be bound by close minded people who are, ultimately, insecure in themselves and so can't see others be content... that, or brainwashed by very conservative social 'ideals'. Or both : /

    afaik the pill doesn't "turn you gay".
    wanting to have sex with your own gender exclusively does that.

    It's not the pill! You're starting to figure yourself out. It's normal. Fuck society. They're not worth living in misery for. If you like girls then you like girls. Besides, being a bisexual girl is more acceptable in this weird ass society then you'd think.

    Oh shit seriously? Now you can turn bi with a pill? Wow, this is a medical break through! Also I must ask WHY ARE YOU TAKING THE PILL TO CLEAR YOUR SKIN?! That is not what the pill is meant for. Its meant to prevent pregnancy and sometimes used to stop PMS but something as petty as clearing your skin? That is like taking steroids to make your beard more bushy. I think perhaps the pills messed up your hormones so you are now attracted to girls. Perhaps it removed too much estrogen and now your testosterone is taking over. Why now you are attracted to women. So your turning into a man. In fact for people who sex change depending on what gender they turn into they take shots of either estrogen or testosterone. If a chick becomes a man they take shots of testosterone. Which would add to the theory sexuality may vary based on hormones.

      Fuck's sake...

      It's not 'petty' it's a recognised medical use of the pill. There are several 'side effects' of the pill that are commonly used as its main purpose, because it effectively treats them. Seeing as you need a prescription to get the pill, we can safely assume that a doctor has ok'd or more than likely recommended this path of treatment.

      Until you have a basic understanding of endocrinology, don't lecture people on the effects of testosterone or oestrogen.

        Its acne.. Using the pill for acne? That sounds like overkill. Especially when they have dozens of topical treatments for it. That wont create any side effects. Also if she has a sudden change in sexual desire it sounds like a hormonal issue. Also it was not a lecture it was a statement. You are really going to deny people with sex change operations take those type of shots? Since they do! Also the pill stops you from getting pregnant which has to do with hormones. Everything in this seems to be revolving around "Hormones". A females period, sex-drive, pregnancy, puberty, facial hair growing in, armpit hair, crotch hair all have to do with puberty which often sets on during teen-hood. I am also not saying OP stop taking them just stating it seems rather unnecessary considering its only for the sake of acne.

          Severe acne often doesn't respond to other methods. It's a common use for the pill. I don't understand why you're arguing against the use. Topical treatments can have side effects. Roaccutane, a pill specifically for treating severe acne, has hideous side effects - both physically and psychologically. The birth control pill is a MUCH safer alternative, if it works, and thus a better/safer first choice.

          I never said hormone treatment wasn't used in sex change procedures. You are a mong with no comprehension skills or understanding of basic concepts. I'm saying that the pill has nothing to do with hormones on the same level as that hormone therapy.

            Well OP reported that they only had a change in sexual desire after the pill. Unless she was just gay/bi before she took them. Its not new that medication has side effects and make people feel different either. Some Anti depressants make the person taking them suicidal which really defeats the purpose of taking the pill but it happens. Also what you listed was a pill for acne I said topical. So I was talking about creams not medication. I have never heard of anyone becoming gay from a medication though.

    It's not the pill. It's just you being you. Find a girl who'd be willing to experiment with you and try it. If you find you're sexually attracted to girls and want a relationship with one even if you dont want one right away, you're probably just bisexual anyway.

    I started using the pill when I was 20, and the exact same thing happened to me. So I think it's normal. I had to stop taking the pill though because it was exacerbating my depression.

        wow sounds like what's happening with me! I'm thinking that the pill removing the distraction of boys helped me see that girls can be awesome too. I'm gonna try out a new brand now though that isn't as strong to see what happens too.

    it COULD be the pills, but it's more likely that you're just developing an attraction to women. You may just be bi-curious, but it sounds more like it's your actual sexuality rather than "I wonder"

    I think your bisexuality is making you bisexual, not the contraceptive pill. ;)

    Though, jokes aside, some studies have shown that women who don't take the pill are way more attracted to manly men. Women who take it show a preference for more attracted to guys who are feminine. It has something to do with your altered hormone levels.
