It's normal, and occasionally funny. Even now, as adults, my fun-loving and jokester older sister will comment on those things. I was making sausage on the grill at her house this past Summer, and, she came over to see how it was going. Instead of picking up an awaiting sausage with tongs, she used her hands, tapped her long nails on it, and joked "I've seen better", with a sly smile.
Several years ago, I was helping her de-decorate her apartment, and picked up a pillar candle that she had out. In a temporary brain fart, she forgot what it was, and, while leaned over a box and putting her hand back, said "Put that hard white thing in my hand, hun". Then realized what she'd said, and laughed louder. It is fun to make references sometimes..
