Is it normal that shy asian girls go grumpy around me?

I am a young Asian male, and I observed that shy Asian girls, especially those who are less westernised, go sour around me. They would be talking to their friends, but when I am near them, they turn stiff, they put on a stone-cold face and avoid ALL eye contact with me. They preen a bit with their hair and such, but all their other body language is that of disgust.
I am so confused. Is this normal or am I that ugly?
