  • I cannot abide tardiness, period. If someone is going to be late and doesn't call without a damn good reason, they will rarely get another chance. Just yesterday I had a meeting with a contractor to get a quote on several thousand dollars of welding work for the boat (a project that could possibly turn into tens of thousands of dollars for him) and the guy showed up an hour late. No call, no apology, but an hour late to a meeting he had arranged! I really don't care if his is the cheapest bid, because how could I trust him to deliver as agreed?
I'll get up hours early, leave the boat hours before the appointed time and sit in the rain for an hour, before I'd be 5 minutes late to an appointment. Should the world around me collapse, I'd beg, borrow or steal a communication device, to inform those I have a meeting with that I'll be late. My word means a great deal to me, and if I say I will do something, then I will make every effort or spend any amount of money possible, to keep it.
