Is it normal that my voice sounds different

When I hear myself talk I hear my voice one way but if I listen to myself on a recording or something it sounds totally different

  • Ugh ya. I'd prefer to sound the way I hear myself.

  • It's because of where your mouth is positioned.

  • Me too. I always thought I had an okay voice and then we I heard how I sound on records I stopped thinking this. In fact I have an annoying voice which sometimes rises a pitch too high.

  • I used to sound different but now I sound exactly the same. I'm very conscious of the way I talk. I don't mean that I dislike it because I don't but I'm conscious that I grew up with a strong accent that could be easily misunderstood and, working with people from pretty much every country of the world, it's important to me to talk a certain way. Plus I tend to do impressions so again I'm conscious of my voice at those times. The voice recording on the IIN Voice site is exactly what I hear in my head when I talk. It's definitely me.

Have you tried recording yourself a lot and seeing how you can modify how you speak so that it sounds the same both ways? I think I did this to an extent because I did used to sound a lot different recorded.

  • I honestly feel the exact same way. I recorded myself talk awhile ago and my voice sounds very different than how I imagined it would. My bro says that it's just the computer, but I kind of wish my voice sounds like how I hear through the computer.
