The bands you have listed were very popular in the 90s and 00s. Your teacher probably came of age around that time. So if you like music from that era than you will probably find other teachers who have similar taste.
And as for Metallica... I don't think I've ever met someone who said they didn't like Metallica. That one is fairly standard.
