We love Ellen in our house and often have it on. My son really loves the way she dances. The other day someone on the show told her she was a wonderful lady which made my 6 year old son laugh! When I asked him what was funny he said "That man called Ellen a lady!" I asked why it was funny and he said "cause he's a boy!"I corrected him, which kinda confused the hell out of him. Is it normal that young kids think Ellen is a male?
There is a point in child development where they become more aware of the genders and try to work out the differences. Part of this is playing "gender police". They will notice things that don't fit the norm, such as men with long hair or women with a more masculine appearance. These things will confuse them and appear 'wrong' to them. It's normal.
My younger brother experienced something similar when we were younger: I used to watch an anime called Rurouni Kenshin when it aired on CartoonNetwork, and my brother was 100% convinced that Kenshin was a girl because Kenshin wore a pink shirt and had long hair tied in a ponytail.
